Digital support in the classroom

The ICT educators provide help where technology meets pedagogy. We offer support with the integration of digital tools into teaching and administration in an educational manner.

We are also here as a sounding board for questions and ideas about digital tools for qualitative course development, universal design for learning, accessibility, hybrid teaching, film for learning, flipped classrooms and much more. In addition, we respond to the queries you send to our support services for the SH-StudyWeb.

Activites

We offer workshops and various types of short training sessions. We are always open to suggestions for new workshops or courses. If you cannot find anything of interest, you are welcome to email ikt-pedagogerna@sh.se and suggest an activity that interests you.

The following training courses or workshops can be ordered free of charge.

Please send all enquiries to ikt-pedagogerna@sh.se.

Introduction to SH-StudyWeb

SH-StudyWeb (Canvas) is the university’s learning management system, where students access all their courses and associated content. If you are completely new to the system or want to refresh your basic knowledge, we go through how to add material, create assignments, assess submitted work and communicate with students. This takes approximately 1-2 hours, depending on requirements. We also have a comprehensive guide to SH-StudyWeb External link.. (in Swedish)

Introductions to functions in digital tools

Do you want to start working more interactively with your students? We run introductions for individuals and groups in tools that include Zoom, Microsoft Whiteboard, Microsoft Forms, and PowerPoint.

Canvas Top 5

ICT educators attend subject councils or similar meetings. They review five different functions and cases based on common support issues relating to SH-StudyWeb. After the session, you should be able to use what you learned to help with course administration that concerns assignments, groups, imported material and attendance.

Last year, Canvas Top 5 was offered as a drop-in webinar. Watch a recording. External link, opens in new window. NB! Only in Swedish.

ABC workshop

Evaluate and develop your course so it includes more interactive learning activities, or adapt it to suit a distance learning format. A 90-minute workshop. Read more about the format External link.. NB. Only available on campus.

Seminar on distance teaching

Using the theories and experience of Diana Laurillard External link, opens in new window. and Gilly Salmon External link, opens in new window., the ICT educators provide an introduction to what teachers must consider in order to run a successful distance learning course. There is a focus on inclusion, communication and participation, supported by learning platforms and digital tools throughout the distance learning course.

Films for teaching

We meet as a subject or collegial group and introduce work on producing films for learning. We will go through film-recording technology, as well as pitfalls and opportunities. It is beneficial if we could meet at least twice, so we can deal with any questions that arise during your own work.

Work interactively with students when there is a touchscreen in the room

Rooms MC313 and UB 785, among others, have touchscreens. The ICT educators use examples to demonstrate how the touchscreen can be used. One smart feature of the touchscreen is that whatever you write on it can be saved and sent to students digitally.

Record films using PowerPoint

We show you how to record films using PowerPoint and explain the basic principles you should consider when you start recording film. Depending on how long the workshop takes, there may be time to test it yourself.

SH-StudyWeb: Book an ICT educator

Do you or your colleagues have questions about SH-StudyWeb? Book one of our ICT educators for an introduction and guide to best practice that is tailored to your specific needs. We can provide anything from a fifteen-minute talk at staff meeting to a longer review or workshop. Email ikt-pedagogerna@sh.se

Resources and guides

This page provides a variety of guides. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like additional material.

The employee web has information on guidelines for material that is published externally and internally. The page also has guides from the ICT educators on how to create accessible material on SH-StudyWeb.

The digital toolbox is a page on SH-StudyWeb that has “Tips cards” for an overview of how you can work to activate students with the support of our digital tools. The cards are based on what you want to do, rather than on the available tools. Try the Digital Toolbox when you want suggestions for activities using digital tools that support student interaction. It also includes solutions to challenges of a more administrative nature.

Wednesday Webinars is a series of recorded Zoom webinars in which the ICT educators spend 15 minutes discussing and demonstrating digital tools that are accessible via the university.

The link below leads to SH Play, the university’s video platform. You must log in to access the material.

Going to record a film?

You are welcome to contact us for guidance and demonstrations of tools.

Quick tips for filming

The following factors affect a student’s perception of the film and their motivation to watch it to the end:

  • The film’s length in relation to its format affects the motivation to watch. Short films are preferable to long ones.
  • Good sound quality is essential (use a headset or microphone).
  • Use supporting visuals – this is important for PPT presentations with voiceovers. Please feel free to use this film External link, opens in new window. as a basis for visual content in yours.
  • Take a personal approach.
  • Sequencing in PowerPoint presentations/voice recordings – signal that a new section is coming with a slide and a new heading.
  • Questions, quizzes or other activities related to the film motivate students to watch it in its entirety.
  • Make the content’s purpose clear. Will the exam include the film’s content, or is it preparation for a seminar?
