New process for credit transfer

As of 20 April, you as a doctoral student will be able to submit applications for credit transfer digitally via Student Ladok. This means that the process will no longer be handled on paper but will take place entirely in Ladok. Information about which courses are included in your doctoral education can be found in the general syllabus. To apply, log in to Student Ladok, click on Menu, and select Credit Transfer. Then follow the instructions to submit your application.

Call for applications and external conferences

The Knowledge Foundation External link, opens in new window. is now opening a new call that offers doctoral students the opportunity to spend up to one year at Stanford University in the United States. The initiative aims to strengthen both the doctoral student’s expertise and Swedish research environments.

Through this special initiative, doctoral students are offered the opportunity to participate in an exchange programme at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, USA. Successful candidates will spend 6–12 months at Stanford, embedded in a host research group and the wider academic community. The exchange provides the doctoral student with opportunities for knowledge exchange, academic merit, and international networking, while also contributing to the development of their home research and educational environment in Sweden.

Application period: 15 April 2026 23 June 2026

Funding decisions: September 2026

Project start: Between January and April 2027

Stockholm Akademiska Forum is running the pilot project Stockholm PhD Academy during 2025–2026. The aim is to support international doctoral students who want to build their careers in Sweden while also strengthening the connections between academia and the labor market.

The national reasearch school School of Excellence in Arctic and Antarctic Learning (SEAL) offers a transdisciplinary platform for doctoral students who want to work with issues related to the Arctic and Antarctic.

Course in Philosophy – Open to All Doctoral Students at Södertörn University

As of the spring semester of 2026, it will be possible to take the course Critical Theory of the Frankfurt School, worth 7.5 credits, offered by the subject of Philosophy within the doctoral education area KKT. Current workshops

Below, we provide information on courses and workshops offered by the university. Some of these activities are specifically aimed at doctoral students, while others are open to both researchers, doctoral students, or other university employees.

PESO invites you to an inspiring workshop together with researcher Hervé Corvellec from Lund University, on the theme of theory and theorizing, based on Corvellec’s book What Is Theory?

The Contested Democracy research platform welcomes PhD candidates at Södertörn University for a one day workshop to explore commonalities in their research and develop their work.

The workshop will be held in English and take place on May 12, 2026.

If your research somehow relates to the topic Contested Democracy, please send an introductory email of about 300 words to noomi.weinryb@sh.se and tell us about your work and research interests so that we can better calibrate the planning of the workshop.

PhD candidates from all disciplines are welcome. Participants will be selected based on the relevance of their research for the topic Contested Democracy.

As you approach the later stages of your PhD, it is natural to start wondering what life after the defence might look like. What kinds of paths are available, how do transitions typically work, and what support can you draw on if your employment is coming to an end?

To explore these questions in an informative way, we have invited the Job Security Foundation (Trygghetsstiftelsen) to share how they support doctoral graduates and what resources are available.

This autumn, the course Basic Swedish for International staff will be held. It is open to internationally recruited employees: doctoral students, teachers and researchers.

It will cover:

  • Swedish grammar
  • Swedish pronunciation
  • Swedish vocabulary (everyday language and academic language).

In addition, you will practice using Swedish in speech and writing.
