Annual leave and parental leave

There are some leaves to which you as an employee may be entitled.

Annual leave

Teaching staff, researchers and doctoral students

Teaching staff, researchers and doctoral students have standard holiday (schablonsemester), which means that the year’s annual leave is taken during the summer.

If you have standard holiday, do not apply for annual leave in Primula.

Standard holiday means that all your annual leave is taken during the summer, starting the Monday before the Midsummer holiday. You must come to an agreement with your manager if you wish to take annual leave at a time other than during the standard holiday. You must also decide when you will work instead.

Technical and administrative staff

Annual leave (holiday) is calculated per calendar year and you take it the same year that you earn it. You receive a holiday increment when you take annual leave.

If you have been employed for a full calendar year, you are entitled to four continuous weeks of annual leave during the summer (June–August). The number of days of annual leave is determined by age.
Apply for annual leave in Primula.

If you are ill during your holiday, register this with your academic school/department on the first day. You must also register it in Primula and take back your holiday days.

If you post in your registration of sick leave, the date of the postmark is recorded as the first day of illness.

Parental leave

You must apply for long-term parental leave at least two months in advance. Apply in Primula.

You are entitled to full parental leave until your child is 18 months old, regardless of whether you are claiming parental benefit.

Försäkringskassan has a lot of information, or contact your payroll administrator if you have questions

Outher leave

You can apply for leave for other reasons, for example

  • Union assignment - if you are a union shop steward, there is no deduction
  • Death and burial of a close relative
