The Governing Board’s review panel in the appointment process for Södertörn University’s new vice-chancellor will recommend that the Governing Board proposes Ylva Fältholm for the position.

The recruitment process for the new vice-chancellor is progressing. During the autumn and early winter of 2024, the Governing Board’s review panel produced a shortlist and interviewed candidates. The hearing panel met with the remaining candidate on Monday 13 January. This hearing panel advises the Governing Board’s review panel and has 22 members: twelve teachers, five other staff members (technical/administrative) and five students, including doctoral students.

After feedback from the hearing panel, the Governing Board’s review panel has decided to recommend that the Governing Board proposes Ylva Fältholm as the new vice-chancellor of Södertörn University.

Ylva Fältholm has been vice-chancellor of the University of Gävle since 2017. She was born in Vallentuna in 1962 and was raised both there and in Gällivare. She is a civil engineer, researcher and professor of human work sciences, and studied and worked at Luleå University of Technology, LTU, since the 1980s.

The Governing Board will meet in February to consider the proposal for new vice-chancellor. The Governing Board’s decision is a recommendation to the Swedish Government, which formally appoints the university’s vice-chancellor. The new vice-chancellor's term of office is expected to start on 1 July 2025.
